OSU Marten & Fisher Project

From June to November of 2024, I was the field lead for a research project overseen by researchers at Oregon State University. Our field work involved collecting hair and track samples from Humboldt (coastal) martens and fishers in northern California and southern Oregon. We used two types of hair snares, each designed for our different target species, to collect the hair samples. Once collected, the hair samples were sent off for genetic analysis to determine the sex, species, and individual identity of each sample.

In addition to spending 4-5 days a week in the field for work, I spent most every weekend attempting, and eventually succeeding, to camera trap both Humboldt martens and fishers.
