Photography

As a photographer, I introduce and keep people in touch with the wild places and animals that share this world. In that spirit, if you feel drawn to one or more of my images, I would love to share them with you. If you are a fellow artist who would like to reference one of my images for your own work, I would gladly grant you permission for this. In either case, the photos posted here are only a fraction of my entire portfolio. If you would like to license, purchase, or inquire about an image please contact me.

Wildlife ecologist, photographer, camera trapper, and certified tracker with a primary focus of studying martens and fishers. No baits or lures used.

Notice how much darker this individual is compared to the photos of martens I posted before. This is what a marten's summer coat looks like: uniformly dark brown with a bright orange throat blaze.

I want you all to take a close look around the marten's eye. Notice the brown fur. This marten is beginning to transition from its winter coat to its summer coat.

Amidst the tangle of a marten's home, there are sp Amidst the tangle of a marten's home, there are special sites where they communicate. While nearly always solitary, martens use chemical cues, through scent marking, to communicate with their neighbors. From my experience, males mark the most, or perhaps it is easiest to identify how males are marking. Pictured in the second image, you can see how this male rubs the scent glands around his groin across the log, and across the scat that a marten left over a month ago.

Since then, I moved my camera setup into a tree to make it more annoying for the bears to access and to try to photograph them back-rubbing. During this lull in the bear activity, a bobcat and moose passed through though.

This is my first time setting my camera off the ground, and after seeing the shots of the bobcat, I think I'll play around with sets like this in the future. I like how much more the bobcat seems to be one with its surroundings. Much to learn though!

For now, I hope you enjoy seeing how drastically smaller bobcats are to moose!
